Councillor John McGahon meets 5th Year Politics Class

Past pupil, local Councillor, and intending candidate for the next General Election, John McGahon met 5th Year Politics students on November 15, fielding a diverse range of questions from the interested students.

Always honest and direct in his answers, the students found the meeting very informative and stimulating.

John’s passion for his political role shines through, and this passion went down well with the students.

The Politics class will be visiting the Dail on December 3, and the RTE Claire Byrne Live Show on December 18.

The class looks forward to welcoming in more political representatives. The students are currently working on their projects. John even made time to meet with some of the 6th Year Politics students, taking questions from them to better inform them in relation to their research for their own LC Projects, worth 20% of their final exam.

Politics & Society is now bedding down as a LC subject in the school, as the current 6th Years will be the first students in DGS to sit this Exam in the LC in 2020, with this being the first year for the subject to be examined in the LC. The current 5th Years are the second group to take up this course. The debates are always good, with the students already displaying a notable passion for the subject.
