Business News (May 2016)

5th Year Business students hosted a Business Presentation Event in the school on Monday 9th May.  The purpose of the afternoon was to present reports to a range of local businesses, which the students had researched and written up.  The invited guests were drawn from the respective businesses.   Following a reception, reports were presented, where the students and a representative from each business spoke.  The Event concluded with awards presented for the Best Individual and Best Group Reports.


Representatives from the following businesses were in attendance: PayPal, National Tile, Horseware, Total Produce, Dundalk FC, Denis Williams Consultancy and Shell’s Driftwood. It was an uplifting and inspiring afternoon, where the worlds of business and education came together. Both businesses and students celebrated the work of the students bearing fruit.

DGS Economics students also visited RTE on Monday 9th May and met RTE Presenter Claire Byrne, following her live show.   The students were members of the programme audience and the focus of the discussion was on the new government, which featured lively and interesting debate.   Among the guests on the night were TDs Stephen Donnelly and Paul Murphy, and Economist David McWilliams.

A small group of Economics students paid a visit to Leinster House on Thursday 12th May, as guest of DGS past pupil John McGahon, who now works for one of the newly elected Senators, Paul Coughlan from Kerry.   As part of the visit, the group met Senator Neale Richmond, Dublin Rathdown, and Noel Rock TD, Dublin North West, Fine Gael’s youngest TD.
