Kenya Build Concert (January 2010)

St. Peter’s Church of Ireland Drogheda on Sunday 11th January was the venue for a DGS school concert.  The concert featured James Nelson of the Celtic Tenors accompanied by Dundalk Grammar School choir and orchestra. 

The concert, was organised by Gillian Johnston, teacher of English and Geography.  All of the concert proceeds, presently at €10,975, are going to Kenya Build, a charity established by Basil Love, to build a kitchen for Cheryl’s Orphanage in Kyberia.

During the concert, James sang duets with Jane Laurence from Julianstown and Emer Lush from Termonfeckin.  The programme also featured wonderful performances from many Dundalk Grammar School students including Aoife Erraught (singer) and Oisin Drumm (violin), and Michael O’Neill (harp).

The core team of compere Ms Aisling Byrne (HE Teacher), Ms Aisling Murphy (Orchestra Conductor) and Ms Pamela O’Connor Moneley (Choral Director) was supported by many other teachers, students and parents.  The evening of “Sacred and Inspirational music in aid of Kenyan Orphans” was viewed by all as a great success.
