Student Discount Card
Riva Brasserie has teamed up with the Students Representative Council in Dundalk Grammar School to launch the Riva DGS Student Discount Card. The Students Council approached Riva with their proposal, and following a series of meetings, the idea to launch a Discount Card became a reality. The card is available to senior cycle students in the school, and with a boarding as well as a day school population, uptake of the card has been very good. The benefits for the students are obvious, while Riva benefits by gaining the custom of students on week-days, and in attracting new customers from the school’s boarding population.
The Students Council has produced an attractive card with photo ID for each student who applied for the card. Posters were also produced which are up in the school and in Riva itself. The Council feels that as well as benefiting their peers, it is making a contribution, however small, to generating business for one outlet in Dundalk in these difficult times.
The Students Council is also pleased to lend its support to the work of two 5th year students in the school, Andrew McGahon and Eoin McGuinness, both members of Louth Junior Council, who are promoting the sale of Shop Local Student Discount Cards in the school. Sales of this card are going well. The card is available for a modest €10, and entitles the holder to discounts from a growing number of retail outlets in Dundalk, as well as Drogheda. This is a fine initiative from Louth Junior Council, and is mobilising the purchasing power of students throughout secondary schools in County Louth for the benefit of local retailers.
The Students Representative Council in Dundalk Grammar School has been busily restructuring itself since September. Now a 19 student body with a freshly redrafted constitution, the Council has set itself an ambitious programme for the academic year ahead. The launch of the Riva card is the first of its planned initiatives for the coming academic year. The positive response this card has received from senior students in the school has really raised the profile of the Council in the school to a new level. Raising its profile among the student body is one of the aims the revamped Council set for itself this year.
The Students Council would like to thank Bernie and Tim Murphy, proprietors of Riva, for their enthusiastic support of this worthwhile and positive initiative.
