Miss Joan Raeburn (1915-2009)
Miss Joan Raeburn, former Deputy Principal and teacher of English and French, died on the 18th of April 2009. She gave four decades of loyal service to the school and is remembered with great affection by her past pupils and former colleagues. She was herself a past pupil of Dundalk Grammar School, probably one of the first pupils when the school re-opened after the 1914-1918 War.
With such a long connection with the school (she was here almost continuously from early 1920s until 1977) Miss Raeburn features in many school photographs over the years (including here as a member of staff in 1962 and as a pupil in 1929).
The Rev’d Sandra Pragnell, Rector of Dundalk, gave her funeral address and a copy is available for download below. It captures not only Miss Raeburn's life but also an era.
