    F1 in Schools World Finals

Six students from Dundalk Grammar School (Team Octane Racing) are representing Ireland at the 2011 World Finals of the Formula1 in Schools Competition on the 19th, 20th and 21st of September in Malaysia.  They will be competing against 23 teams from all over the world for the F1 in Schools Bernie Ecclestone Trophy and a chance of winning an engineering scholarship as well as other prestigious prizes.

Work for the DGS students began in September  2010 with 600 students representing 150 second level schools from across Ireland battling their way through the various stages of the competition to reach the National Finals.  Team Octane Racing were overall winners of the 2011 F1 in Schools Technology Challenge (powered in Ireland by the Irish Computer Society).  This is Dundalk Grammar School's fourth year in the competition and second consecutive year winning the National Finals.  Last year's team, Govannon Racing, came 8th overall in the world which was a great achievement.

In addition to racing head to head with a miniature scaled down F1 racing car, the competing teams will be judged on the quality of engineering, portfolio, resource management, marketing, graphic design and sponsorship activities and on a verbal presentation of their work.  If you would like to see how they are getting on please logon to the team website http://www.f1octaneracing.com, where you can register to see the Live Webcast from the competition.
