Junior School Official Opening (November 2010)
On Friday 12th November Mr Leo Enright, the well known radio and TV Broadcaster, visited Dundalk Grammar's New Junior School to view its new science laboratory and officially open the New Junior School in an all-new compact series of purpose-built buildings.
Commenting on the day Mr Enright noted that it was unusual and encouraging that this school had identified that it is very important to encourage wonderment and foster a love of science right from the earliest age. He went on to venture that it is likely that the long-term salvation of our economy may well come from scientists and
engineers who are at junior school right now, and he commended the vision that had lead to the building of such a great facility.
Principal of the Junior School, Ms Elaine Lait, in introducing Mr Enright to an assembly of pupils, parents and staff said it was a joy for her and her staff to have such an up-to-date school to welcome the children to each morning, and she was sure the new teaching aids throughout the school would ensure that the abilities of all the pupils were developed and stretched to the maximum.
Mr Cyril Drury, Headmaster of Dundalk Grammar School, speaking too at the opening said that the New Junior School made for a perfect start for students wishing to avail of the best facilities anywhere at primary level, as well as many available in the secondary school next door before they moved on to that establishment.
Dr Laurence Swan, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, said "this is a great day for Dundalk Grammar School and we cannot let the day pass without thanking Mr Denis Williams and Mr Gareth Collier of Denis Williams Consulting Engineers, and Mr Frank Toner and Mr Colm Hoey of JP Castle Ltd., the builders, for completing what was not a straight-forward design or build both on time and to budget. In particular he mentioned that Mr Gareth Collier's persistent attention to every detail was outstanding at all stages".
