2011 International Schools Swimming Championships
Congratulations to Dundalk Grammar School student, Brian O’Sullivan in 4th Year, who swam brilliantly in the International School Swimming Championships in Dublin on the last weekend in March (2011).
In total forty male and female swimmers represented Ireland and Irish Schools and competed against the very best swimmers from the other countries.
The WISE (Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England) International swimming teams representing Schools and Country assembled and trained together on Friday 25th March. The competition was staged at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin in Long Course 50m format.
On Saturday morning Brian swam the anchor length of the 4x 100 freestyle relay intermediate event. Brian swam 54.1 seconds for the anchor leg of the relay and came home to rapturous cheering and applause winning the long awaited fist Irish Gold medal of the day. The Irish team won in 3.36.72 which was a new international schools record.
On Saturday afternoon Brian won his second gold medal in the individual 100 Backcrawl intermediate age group competition in 1.01.07. This time was a new Long Course Personal Best for Brian and made it two golds for him from his two events at the International.
Overall Ireland won 3 gold medals in total on Saturday. The 3rd Irish gold medal was won by Curtis Coulter from Ardpatrick in the 100m freestyle individual intermediate competition in 53.06 secs. Both Brian and Curtis were jointly honoured at the annual swim gala dinner in Dublin on Saturday night where they both shared the award for Best Irish Swimmer.
