All Kids Count speaking out at YSI

It has been one of the busiest periods in the Enterprise arena for the School over the last 9 days. The Rabbits Tale and Molly Macs Cookbooks represented County Louth with distinction in the Student Enterprise Awards National Finals held in Croke Park on 27thApril.  While neither picked up an award, it was a great achievement for both to have qualified for such prestigious finals, and as is the case in such finals, the margin between winning and not is very narrow.  Both companies drew a lot of interest, including a meeting with Bobby Kerr, MD and Founder of Insomnia Coffee and Dragon on RTE’s Dragons Den. Lucy Van Dijk, MD of The Rabbits Tale, was one of 4 young entrepreneurs interviewed on the TV3 Morning AM Show on the morning of the finals.  Lucy’s appearance on the Show can still be viewed by logging on to the TV3 website.

Meanwhile, the Young Social Innovators Annual Showcase took place in Croke Park on May 5th. 60 social action projects were selected from 400 projects nationwide to participate in this National Showcase.  Both of the school’s YSI projects were 2 of the 60 selected to participate, a tribute to the quality of the projects of both Transition Year groups.  All Kids Count and Make-Up Your Mind were each given 3 minutes to present on stage their project themes, followed by questions put to them by 3 judges in a Dragons Den style format. Both groups put on admirable presentations, and were well received by the judges and the large crowds in attendance. They certainly made the public aware of the issues they were focussed on getting across.  The RTE cameras arrived just in time to capture the stage presentation of Make-Up Your Mind.  The cameras were present to film for the RTE Nationwide programme, which goes out on RTE1 Television this evening (Friday May 7th) at 7.00 pm.  Why not tune in!

The Rabbits Tale, Molly Macs Cookbooks and Make-Up Your Mind are among 8 enterprise groups from the School participating in a Trade Fair in the vacant Sasha Unit in the Marshes Shopping Centre this Saturday, May 8th, between 11.00 am and 5.00 pm. Café Riposo will operate its coffee shop for the day.  So if you are in the vicinity on Saturday, please pay the Fair a visit, meet with the enterprising students, consider purchasing some products, and relax at the coffee shop. In attending, you are supporting these enterprising students, and acknowledging their recent achievements.
