Barcelona Trip 2010
On the 25th of March, Fourth Year students headed off to Barcelona on a five-day trip. On the first day of this trip, which was organised by Ms. T. Ruddle, students went on a 4 hour guided sightseeing tour of Central Barcelona. Thankfully, this didn’t involve four hours of walking - instead there was an air conditioned coach to ease the burden!! Later in the day, the Nou Camp Stadium was visited. This football stadium, Barcelona FC’s homeground, with its capacity of an awe inspiring 120,000 people certainly captivated the attention. The museum also gave an insight into how football has developed down through the decades. On the following day, students went to visit what surely must be the city’s most outlandish landmark - Gaudi’s unfinished Cathedral. And as ever, the sound of the ongoing construction work could be heard in the background! Next on the agenda was a visit to L’Aquarium, one of the biggest aquariums in Europe. Here, the DGS party were able to see marvellous underwater scenes.
Displays ranged from small goldfish right the way up to giant sharks. On the Sunday of this trip, students and teachers went along to Port Aventura. Owned by Universal Studios, this park provided students with much entertainment - the choice of spectacular white knuckle rides on offer was quite extraordinary. It has even been suggested that one or two of the teachers may have had a go on a few rides!!! After all of this it was time to sample some magic at The House of Illusion - thankfully, no-one got sawn in half! On the final day of the trip students were able to indulge in a slightly more cultural pursuit when they went along to visit the Picasso Museum. The teachers who accompanied students on this trip were: Mr. D. Cullen, Ms. J. Gray, Ms. M. Byrne and Ms. T. Ruddle.
