Dundalk Grammar School is one of a small, select band of schools in Ireland offering students of both genders the ability to board 5 days per week. This recent photograph depicts this year's 6th form boarders with President Mary McAleese. These students are currently preparing for their Leaving Certificate where the school offers 21 subjects so that each student may choose the range of subjects that best suit their career path as developed by each in conjunction with the school's experienced career guidance counsellor.

Mr Cyril Drury, Headmaster, commenting on the facility said "We find that there are a number of important reasons why students greatly benefit from boarding such as parents have to move around with their employment in these times and don't wish to disrupt their children's education, some students wish to be free from the disruptions and temptations of home life at an important time of study, and still others consider that living away from home for what is not a huge time each week allows them develop skills in relation to preparing for life at third level - this is important for many as over 96% of Dundalk Grammar School students go on to attend chosen third level courses."

Ms Sarah Babington, Head of Boarding, added "Our catchment area is extensive. Within Ireland it covers counties Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, Meath and north Co Dublin. We have students from overseas as well including Japan, Spain, and Germany. I think we shouldn't forget that a key element for students very often is also the fact that they find it fun to board!”
