Girls Hockey Report 2011
The Grammar girls had another great week with 3 wins and a draw.
On Wednesday 30th November the 3rd and 4th year teams took on the strong Dublin school Loreto Beaufort. The 4th year team battled very hard and were undoubtedly the better team but just could not seem to score. The final score was 0-0. The 3rd years then took to the pitch and performed excellently beating the Dublin school by two goals to one coming from Grace Keegan and Holly McPhail.
It was the turn of the 2nd and 1st year teams on Friday when they took on Loreto School Navan. The 2nd years played first and they were the stronger side throughout and ran out comfortable winners by five goals to nil. Goals were scored by Aideen Fay (2), Aoife Fay, Amey Berril and Megan Wayte.
Not to be out done the 1st year girls took to the pitch for what was only their second match ever. They played some fantastic hockey and eventually won the game by 5 goals to nil. Goals were scored by Ally Stammochoer (3), Emma Bailey and Ciara Breagy. These results leave all four team in excellent positions in both the Leinster League and the local Meath League.
Also this season Dundalk Grammar School 2nd year pupil Megan Wayte has had the great honour of being selected for the Leinster Under 16 Development squad. This is a great achievement for Megan and the school. Not only is Megan a skilled hockey player, she is a very hard working player who never misses a training session and it is great to see her hard work has paid off. Megan will attend 5 training sessions with top Irish coaches and hopes to be seleted for the final team who will play Ulster next April time.
