DkIT & DGS Coding Collaboration 2017 – 2018

Seven DGS Coding students attended the Department of Computing Science and Mathematics end of year event in DkIT on Thursday, 3rd May, 2018 to see fourth year students exhibit their projects.

Our students used VR technology software which was developed by the DkIT students. They also displayed the programs that they designed and DkIT judges awarded them with Certificates of Course Completion.

Digidownloads.co were awarded 1st place by the judges for their website which Imogen Jenkins, Patrick Egan and Andrew Byrne (2R), hope to develop when they get to Transition Year.

The Judges were extremely impressed by the fact that the website was linked with companies such as Argos and Smyths and that the students had incorporated an API (Application Program Interface) in it.

They were also impressed with the website hillview.ie, designed by Oran Brady (TY student) and by the games created in Scratch by Ian Englishby (1B) and Torin Drake (1R) called Kiwi story.

We would like to thank Dr. Christian Horn (Head of Computing Science and Mathematics) and Philip Scanlon (DkIT Recruitment and Retention Officer ) and all of the lecturers for their support with the coding collaboration between DkIT and DGS.

A special thank you, goes to Minh Thu Lê and Connor Pakenham (DkiT 4th Year Graduates) who shared their coding skillset with our students since last December. Our students learned how to develop an App and also create websites during the 5 month course.

We look forward to continuing the DkIT and DGS Coding collaboration in the new Academic Year 2018-2019.

Any students who are interested in learning how to code please contact Mr. P. Murphy (ICT Facilitator & Apple Teacher) in school.
