SPAR FAI Primary School 5’s

On Monday 6th March 2018 Dundalk Grammar Junior School took part in a FAI Primary School 5 a side competition that was organised by the Football Association of Ireland and was sponsored by SPAR. The tournament hosted eleven schools all around Louth with a number of schools entering two teams. Overall seventeen teams entered the small schools A’s boys category.

The tournament involved teams being split into 4 groups with majority having four teams in a group and one group having five teams. Dundalk first match was against St Nicholas Dundalk A where Dundalk come on top and won 6-4 they them. Goals scored by Nathan McCreesh (3) Thomas McNamara (2) Adam Coleman (1)

The second match was against Scoil Naomh Brid Omeath B team which was an exciting game as it was end to end action with plenty goals for both teams. But Dundalk Grammar were the more clinical team as they won that match 9-5 with Thomas Mc Namara scoring incredible five goals followed by 2 goals from Nathan McCreesh and one goal each from Thomas McCourt and Josh Tooher.

So their final group game was against another tough opposition St Pauls Walshestown team who had won all their previous games prior to this match. This game decided who would top the group. It was a close game at the start with both teams defending well and some excellent saves from Dundalk Grammar goalkeeper Con O’Sullivan. Unfortunately St Pauls Walshestown were to strong and the match ended up finishing 7-3 to them with Goals coming from our Thomas McNamara (2) and Thomas McCourt (1).

As a result Dundalk Grammar school was runner up of their group and qualified for the playoffs. This meant they had to play the winners in Group 4 which were St Olivers Carlingford.

Unfortunately Dundalk Grammar team didn’t qualify for the Leinsters but then had an enjoyable experience. We would like to thank the FAI for organising this event and we will be looking forward to taking part again next year.
