Prize Day 2012

On Friday 21st September, Dundalk Grammar School held its annual prize-giving ceremony in its newly-built Multi-Purpose Hall.   On this occasion, DGS was very fortunate to have Dr. Dawson Stelfox, the first Irish person to reach the top of Mount Everest, as the guest speaker.

In a thought-provoking speech Dr. Stelfox told the assembled audience of pupils, parents and school staff about both the physical and psychological challenges of mountaineering and how “you can learn from your mistakes”.   He emphasized that to him “committment is what makes a difference between success and failure” and that “knowledge brings the confidence to go further”.   He ended his speech with a few inspiring and reassuring words saying that everyone is capable of excelling in whatever field they choose.

There were a large number of awards handed out on the day for a wide range of activities carried out in the school including community service, academic excellence, application and progress, and music.   As in previous years, the audience were provided with a number of wonderful musical moments from the school’s choir and orchestra.
